BLDG was founded in 2010 with the original purpose to be the management arm for its affiliate investment company, BMC Investments. The company’s founders had no prior track record in multifamily management but knew that the only way to get the operational performance and accountability they desired was to start their own management company. BLDG’s first property, The Amherst, was an 81 unit community, built in 1973, in a very rough part of southwest Denver. Through this takeover and renovation, BLDG learned a variety of hard lessons. Persevering through violent crime, drug dealing and a myriad of maintenance challenges, BLDG successfully transformed the property into a thriving community of hard working residents who were proud to call The Amherst home. Noticing the change that BLDG created, The Amherst was selected as a finalist for the Urban Land Institute’s Influence Award. While the property ultimately was runner-up in this category to Denver’s Union Station redevelopment (not a bad thing to come in second place to), it was major recognition for what BLDG did to transform that part of southwest Denver.
It was this transformation that made BLDG realize the impact that our company could have not only on the properties we manage, but the communities in which we operate. The roll-up-your-sleeves approach and hustle this property required, was ingrained in everything BLDG did from that point onward. Turning communities around became our passion and, with that, we sought like-minded individuals to join our team. This passion is reflected in our company values that define our team and the way we approach property management. It is this humble beginning that molded BLDG into a people-focused organization that has a laser focus on all of the little details required for superior operational execution. Since these humble beginnings, BLDG has now managed over 36 properties comprised of almost 8,700 multifamily units and 300,000 square feet of commercial and retail. These properties are a mix of owned and third-party managed assets ranging from “Class-C” properties like The Amherst to Class-A new construction lease-ups; with each receiving the same high level of care and execution. We have grown to over 180 employees and have countless employee development success stories.
While BLDG is proud of the performance of our properties, we are most proud of the company culture we have built that focuses both on our people and giving back to the communities in which we operate.
